What are Dental Implants?

Fixing the problem of missing teeth has always been a challenge, but fortunately, there is one solution that offers many advantages over other common methods: dental implants. A dental implant is made from titanium and is actually implanted into the jaw. A crown is then placed on top. While it takes 3-6 months for the surgical site to completely heal, it will definitely be worth the wait. After the process is complete, your new dental implants will look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth used to.

Dental implants allow a missing tooth to be replaced without altering adjacent teeth with a bridge. Partial or full dentures can be supported by or replaced with dental implants, improving both function and appearance. Even just two implants in the lower jaw, placed strategically in order to hold bottom dentures in place, can greatly improve chewing ability and reduce denture slipping. Implants also help slow down or stop bone deterioration in your jaw caused by missing teeth.

If your jawbone has already experienced significant loss of bone mass, bone regeneration is sometimes an option. Yes, that means your oral surgeon can actually re-grow some of the bone in your jaw, allowing for proper and successful placement of dental implants.
